Answers to the questions we hear most, and how to reach a human when they don't cover it.
Getting started
Which version should I play?
The Windows build is the full game, including LAN multiplayer, and it updates itself. The browser build is the same single-player game and Map Builder with nothing to install — ideal for a first look, or for Mac and Linux.
Is Warigami free?
Yes. There is no price, no account, no in-game purchases, and no ads. It is pre-release software in active development.
Where do I start?
The Tutorial is the first item on the menu. It is a voiced, eleven-beat mission that teaches workers, supply, patterns, walls and your first Ink Storm in about fifteen minutes. After that, a Skirmish against the AI at Easy.
What are the controls?
Left-click selects, right-click orders. WASD, arrow keys, screen edges or middle-drag pan the camera; the wheel zooms. Every command has a hotkey shown on its card. The full list is on the Controls page of the wiki.
Windows build
Windows says "Windows protected your PC".
It should not, from 0.31.6 on: the installer, the game and the uninstaller are all code-signed as BECKHAM ENTERPRISES, LLC. and timestamped. If you see that warning on a Warigami download, the file is not ours — delete it and download again from this site. Older unsigned builds (0.31.5 and before) did show it; updating in-app or reinstalling clears it.
The game opens to a black screen.
Update your graphics driver first — WebGL 2 needs a reasonably current one. If it persists, look in %APPDATA%\Warigami\renderer.log and send it to us with your GPU model. A laptop with two GPUs sometimes needs Warigami set to the high-performance GPU in Windows Graphics settings.
It runs slowly.
The game lowers its own graphics preset once if it can't hold 22 fps for ten seconds. You can set it yourself under Settings ▸ Graphics: render scale, shadows, effect density and an fps cap. Six-player matches on the largest maps are the heaviest.
How do updates work?
On launch the game checks our release bucket. If there is a newer version it downloads only the changed part (about 60 MB), checks its hash, and offers Restart to update or Update & quit. Nothing runs in the background.
Where are my maps saved?
In %APPDATA%\Warigami\maps, with version history. Library ▸ Export writes a single .json file you can back up or share; Import brings one back.
How do I uninstall?
Windows Settings ▸ Apps ▸ Warigami ▸ Uninstall, or run the uninstaller in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Programs\Warigami. Your %APPDATA%\Warigami folder (maps, settings, logs) is left behind on purpose; delete it if you want a clean slate.
Browser build
Which browsers work?
Current Chrome, Edge and Firefox on a desktop or laptop. Safari works but is slower. It needs WebGL 2 and about 40 MB on first load. Phones and tablets will run it, but an RTS wants a mouse and keyboard.
Can I play multiplayer in the browser?
Not yet. Multiplayer is LAN-only and lives in the Windows build. The browser build is single-player: tutorial, skirmish, scenarios and the Map Builder.
My maps disappeared.
The browser build stores maps in your browser's local storage for warigami-play.pages.dev. Clearing site data, a private window, or a different browser profile means a different library. Export anything you care about from the Library.
Can I move maps between the browser and Windows builds?
Yes — Library ▸ Export in one, Library ▸ Import in the other. The file format is the same.
LAN multiplayer
My friends can't see my game.
Everyone must be on the same local network (same router, same Wi-Fi band is safest) and on the same version. Windows Firewall must allow Warigami on Private networks: discovery is UDP port 41734, game traffic is TCP port 27341. If discovery still fails, the host can read out the room code and guests can type it in.
Someone dropped mid-match.
The match holds for 20 seconds while they reconnect, then continues. A player who comes back later can rejoin the same room and catch up; a player who quits deliberately is out.
Can we play over the internet?
Not natively. A LAN-over-internet tool such as ZeroTier, Tailscale or Hamachi that puts everyone on one virtual network works, since the game only needs to see the other players' addresses.
How many players and colours?
Two to six people. A map can have up to twelve colours in any alliance arrangement — free-for-all, teams, or lopsided — and empty seats are stripped at launch so nobody has to raze a ghost base.
Map Builder & scenarios
What is the difference between Melee and Use Map Settings?
Melee maps play by the stock rules with whatever lobby settings the host picks. Use Map Settings maps carry their own rules — triggers, costs, allowed units, vision, alliances — and the lobby can't override them. The type is chosen when the map is created.
How do triggers work?
A trigger is a sentence: WHEN a condition holds, DO some actions, with options for how often it fires. Conditions include zones, headcounts, resources, kills, timers, counters and building completion; actions include spawn, give, message, camera pan, victory and defeat, and many more. A trigger can loop "for each player" so one rule serves every seat. The Editor pages on the wiki walk through it.
Can I change unit costs or stats for my map?
Yes, on Use Map Settings maps: Scenario ▸ Economy opens a popup where any building or unit can be repriced, sped up, made instant, or given different health, damage and speed, and every upgrade and study can be repriced too.
Report a bug
Every report goes into the same pile the developers work from, and most of what's in the update log started as one.
- Windows build: press Ctrl+B the moment you see the problem. The game pauses, takes a screenshot, and attaches the last ten seconds of performance data and logs. Describe what you expected and what happened, add a nickname if you'd like credit, and press Send. Nothing is sent otherwise — see the privacy policy for exactly what's in a report.
- Browser build: the in-game form saves locally but can't reach us yet. Email [email protected] instead, with your browser, the map, roughly when in the match it happened, and a screenshot if you have one.
- Crashes and black screens: attach
%APPDATA%\Warigami\renderer.logand your GPU model. - Desyncs in multiplayer: the game shows a desync notice. Tell us which player hosted, how far into the match it was, and what was happening; both players' logs help.

Email is the fastest way to reach us: [email protected]. The contact page has a topic list so your mail lands in the right pile. We read everything; replies can take a few days during a release push.
