Terms of Use
The license for the game, the rules for the site, and what you keep when you make something with the Map Builder.
In plain words
- Warigami is free to download and play for personal use. Don't sell it, rehost it, or strip it for parts.
- It's pre-release. Things will change, saves may break between versions, and it comes with no warranty.
- Maps and campaigns you make are yours. If you share them with other players or send them to us, you're letting them be played and, in our case, used to improve the game.
- Be decent to the people you play with on your network. Don't cheat, and don't break the game on purpose for others.
- We can update these terms; the date at the top tells you when.
The sections below are the version that counts.
The agreement
By downloading, installing, or playing Warigami, or by using this website, you agree to these Terms of Use and to our Privacy Policy. If you don't agree, don't use Warigami. If you are under the age of majority where you live, a parent or guardian must agree on your behalf.
Your license to play
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to install and play Warigami on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial entertainment. This is a license, not a sale: we keep ownership of the game and everything in it.
You may not, except where the law expressly allows it despite this clause:
- sell, rent, sublicense, or otherwise distribute Warigami or any part of it, including re-hosting the browser build or the installer;
- reverse-engineer, decompile, or extract the game's source code, models, audio, voice lines, or other assets, or use them in another product;
- remove or alter any notices of ownership;
- use Warigami to build a competing product, or use its assets to train a machine-learning model;
- circumvent any technical measure that protects the game or its update mechanism.
You may record, stream, screenshot, and publish videos of your play, and you may use the game's name and screenshots to talk about it, review it, or make guides and fan content, including for ad-supported channels. Please don't imply we endorse your content, and see our press kit for logos.
Pre-release software
Warigami is in active development. Features, balance, save formats, and map formats change between versions, and an update may make older maps, campaigns, or saved settings behave differently or stop working. We are not obliged to keep any version available, to maintain backward compatibility, or to release a finished version at all. The Windows build checks for updates at launch and installs them when you choose; you may decline, but multiplayer requires every player to be on the same version.
Your maps, campaigns and reports
You own what you make. Maps, scenarios, campaigns, and other content you create with the Map Builder ("your content") belong to you. The underlying game assets they use — models, art, sounds, unit designs — remain ours and are licensed to you only for use within Warigami.
Sharing with players. When you host a custom map, it is transmitted to the other players in your lobby so everyone plays the same file. By hosting it you grant them a license to play, keep, and edit that copy for their own use in Warigami. You are responsible for content you share; don't share content you don't have the right to share, or content that is illegal or abusive.
Sending things to us. If you send us a bug report, feature request, map, screenshot, or feedback (through the in-game reporter, by email, or otherwise), you grant us a perpetual, worldwide, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, adapt, and incorporate it to develop, test, and improve Warigami and to tell people about it, without compensation or attribution. We may include ideas from feedback in the game without any obligation to you. Don't send us anything you consider confidential.
Fair play
When you play with others on a local network, you agree not to cheat, to tamper with the game state, to exploit bugs to gain an advantage over other players, or to deliberately disrupt or crash their game. Warigami has no online service and no account system, so enforcement is between you and the people you play with; but we may refuse to accept reports or contributions from anyone who does these things.
Our intellectual property
Warigami, its name and logo, the Pious and Profane provinces, the unit and building designs and names, the voice lines, music, sound effects, models, art, text, and the software itself are owned by Beckham Enterprises and protected by copyright, trademark, and other laws. All rights not expressly granted in these terms are reserved. "Warigami" and the Warigami logo are trademarks of Beckham Enterprises; you may use them to refer to the game but not in a way that suggests affiliation or endorsement.
The website and wiki
The wiki, tech tree, and other pages on warigami-game.com are provided for reference. Game statistics shown there are exported from the game's data files and are accurate for the version they were exported from, which may lag the live game. Text and images on the site are ours unless credited otherwise; you may quote reasonable excerpts with attribution and a link.
Third-party components
Warigami is built with open-source software, including Three.js, Electron, and Chromium, each under its own license. Those licenses are included with the Windows build (see LICENSE.electron.txt and LICENSES.chromium.html in the install folder) and govern those components.
No warranty
WARIGAMI AND THIS WEBSITE ARE PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, TITLE, AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE GAME WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED, ERROR-FREE, OR COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR HARDWARE, OR THAT SAVED CONTENT WILL BE PRESERVED. Some jurisdictions don't allow the exclusion of implied warranties, so some of this may not apply to you.
Limitation of liability
TO THE FULLEST EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW, BECKHAM ENTERPRISES AND ITS OWNERS, CONTRIBUTORS, AND SUPPLIERS WILL NOT BE LIABLE FOR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, OR FOR ANY LOSS OF DATA, PROFITS, OR GOODWILL, ARISING OUT OF OR RELATED TO WARIGAMI OR THESE TERMS, HOWEVER CAUSED. BECAUSE WARIGAMI IS PROVIDED FREE OF CHARGE, OUR TOTAL LIABILITY TO YOU FOR ALL CLAIMS WILL NOT EXCEED TEN US DOLLARS (US$10). Some jurisdictions don't allow these limits, in which case they apply to the maximum extent the law permits.
Ending the agreement
You can end this agreement at any time by uninstalling Warigami and stopping use of the site. We may end your license if you breach these terms. Sections on content licenses, intellectual property, warranty, liability, and governing law survive termination.
Changes
We may update these terms as the game grows. Material changes will be noted in the update log, and the effective date at the top will change. Continuing to use Warigami after a change means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of California and the United States, without regard to conflict-of-law rules. Any dispute that can't be settled by talking to us first will be brought in the state or federal courts located in California, and you consent to their jurisdiction. If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest remains in effect.
