Strategy Guide

Mastering Warigami requires understanding build orders, unit compositions, and map control. This guide covers the fundamental strategies for both new and experienced players.

Early Game (0-5 minutes)

The opening minutes of a Warigami game are critical. Your priorities should be:

  1. Immediately queue 3-4 Paper Pickers from your Palace
  2. Scout with your Prime β€” find Paper Pylons and Pencilcore Pits near your base
  3. Build a Paper Press as soon as you hit 100 Paper β€” it scribes raw Paper into Parchment
  4. Train 2-3 Pupils for early defense
  5. Send 2 Prospectors to a Pencilcore Pit β€” you’ll want raw Pencilcore stockpiled for the Patternworks and its units

Opening Build Orders

The Standard Opening

  1. 4x Paper Picker
  2. Paper Press
  3. 2x Pupil
  4. 2x Prospector (onto a Pencilcore Pit)
  5. Patternworks

The Rush Opening

  1. 3x Paper Picker
  2. 5x Pupil
  3. Attack with Pupils + Prime
  4. Paper Press (behind the attack)

The Boom Opening

  1. 6x Paper Picker
  2. Paper Press
  3. 2x Paper Press (yes, three total)
  4. 2x Prospector (bank Pencilcore for later tech)
  5. Rely on Parapets for defense

Mid Game (5-15 minutes)

The mid game is defined by the Patternworks coming online. Key decisions:

  • Army Composition β€” Choose your core army based on scouting:
    • vs. massed Pupils: Plaguebearers + Pikemen
    • vs. Proteges: Pelters + Pupils (screen)
    • vs. Pelters: Prowlers + Proteges (flank and engage)
  • Map Control β€” Expand to contested resource points
  • Tech Choices β€” Prioritize Playbook Projector research based on your strategy

Late Game (15+ minutes)

The late game revolves around:

  • Paper Prowess β€” Research this for a massive power spike (it unlocks each unit’s second ability slot)
  • Army Trades β€” Efficient engagements become critical as resources deplete
  • Polish Upgrades β€” Invest excess resources into army-wide Playbook Polishes
  • Decapitation Attempts β€” Prowler squads targeting the enemy Prime become viable win conditions

General Tips

  • Always be producing β€” If your Palace or Patternworks is idle, you are falling behind.
  • Scout constantly β€” Information wins games. Use Prowlers or spare Pupils to maintain map vision.
  • Use Fold abilities β€” They can turn a losing fight into a winning one. Practice the timing.
  • Control groups β€” Assign your army to control groups for faster response times.
  • Don’t overcommit β€” If a fight looks bad, retreat and regroup. Preserving units is often better than trading inefficiently.
  • Expand your economy β€” The player with more resources will win a long game. Don’t stop making workers.
