Skirmish & Campaign

These are the ways to play on your own — a straight fight against the computer, or a guided series of missions.

Single-player Skirmish

A Skirmish is standard RTS: build a base, grow an economy, and destroy the enemy. On a Skirmish map you win by destroying every enemy team’s Palace or Prime — losing either one eliminates that team. Skirmish maps always end on annihilation.

When you play alone, you face the computer AI. The AI runs a full economy and build order, so it gathers, expands, and produces units the way a human would. You can set the AI to different difficulties per team, which lets you tune the challenge or mix easier and harder opponents in the same match.

Campaign

A Campaign is a series of custom maps played in order, launched from the Campaign menu. Campaigns are built to be played start to finish:

  • Per-mission briefings set up each map before you play it.
  • Unlock rules gate progression — later missions unlock after you beat earlier ones.

Because campaign missions are just custom maps, a campaign can mix Skirmish maps and Scenario maps together.

The First Crease

The built-in tutorial, “The First Crease,” is the best place to start. It teaches the basics through scripted objectives, walking you through the core actions step by step. It is an authored Scenario map — it uses the same trigger system described in Scenario & Triggers.

Building Your Own

Both the maps you play in Skirmish and the missions you string into a Campaign can be made in the Map Editor. The author chooses whether each map is a Skirmish or a Scenario when they build it.
